![]() The multiplayer is interesting but looks just like a simple extra to the main game. This is not a crime, though, because the game is really awesome. I don't think that's worth the price of this disc. Dead Space 2 is bigger, better but less scary than the first episode of Visceral Games horror franchise. But when the unholy artifact unleashes a long-dormant alien race, its glimpse of Heaven transforms the ship into a living Hell. You get the movie, which I enjoyed, and the ability to turn subtitles on. Dead Space: Downfall On a deep space mining mission for the crew of USG Ishimura to a remote planet, an ancient religious relic is unearthed and brought aboard. There are no commentaries, no behind the scenes features, and no in-game content. The downside here – and the fact that would make me recommend renting this instead of buying it – is the fact that there's basically no value on the disc beyond the movie. I dig it as the setup gives the skewed stories a personal edge both in terms of content and context. Having that sterile, simple anchor works for branching out into these different works. When the movie first started, I though it looked rather cheap, but then each crewmember's memory is animated like a more traditional cartoon. The objective part of the story (the crew on the interrogation ship) is told in a sterile, computer-animated style. ![]() This disjointed style has turned me off to similar productions – Batman: Gotham Knight – but it works here thanks to some contextual choices. For the most part, I liked all the characters, too, although the dude crying about his daughter is a bit one dimensional.Įach story is told in a different animation style. It heightens the tension as you know terrible moments are just around the corner. You'll see how one person loses his mind from his perspective and then get to see the seemingly random attack from another. Shock to the system Your journey begins and ends in outer space humans have run out of resources on Earth and now travel the stars in search for more. Set three years after the events of the first, Isaac Clarkes fight against a new Necromorph outbreak on the Sprawl, a space station above Saturns largest moon, Titan. These stories are interesting, intertwined and gruesome. Each character is ushered into an interrogation room and exposed to their greatest fear. Instead, we start with the survivors being saved and are then treated to their personal accounts of what the heck happened down there. Protagonist Issac Clarke awakes to find himself. And admittedly, in the game's opening sections, this is incredibly effective. For most of its playtime, Dead Space 2 is never interested in scaring the player it wants to terrorize them. More specifically, the game never knows when to shut the hell up. The movie doesn't play out in chronological order. The problem with Dead Space 2 is its horror. Where Dead Space Aftermath excels is in its storytelling. Of course, as we've previously discussed, the Marker makes monsters and drives people insane, so things go to hell as soon as the first piece is found. Thankfully, first impressions can be deceiving, and Dead Space Aftermath is actually a cool film that goes into two unexplored plot points from Dead Space 2. Half the squad is there to stabilize the planet while the other half is there to collect Marker fragments. In Aftermath, the crew of the O'Bannon lands on Aegis VII.
